Kimi Antonelli’s exceptional comeback from a chaotic start of the weekend with an engine penalty to a historic win at his home race

A chaotic weekend


Opening this week, Kimi antonelli had to take a engine penalty due to getting a new engine, and as a result of this he started in the back of the grid regardless of his qualifying which he qualified 7th place and would start at p19 at the start of the opening lap.


A furious comeback


Despite starting in the back of the grid, he immediately started bulldozing his way into the top 15 going all the way to p12 at the end of the opening lap following the opening lap Charles Leclerc crashed into the wall and at the race resort after the barriers are prepared from the incident Antonelli climbs up to p8 and by lap seven, he passes the reigning world champion Lando Norris for p6. By lap 10, he passes Pierre Gasly and enters inside the top five where he makes quick work of Oscar Piastri and moves up the third place at lap 13. On lap 16 he overtakes the four-time champion Max Verstappen. To claim second place where his only obstacle was his teammate George Russell.


On the 18th lap of the race, the unthinkable happened as he took the lead of the race from lapse 20 to 23. He’s battled with his teammate in an incredible yo-yo battle. After Lance stroll’s car broke down Antonelli pitted alongside Max Verstappen. Meanwhile Antonelli is his teammate. George Russell stayed out on older hard tires, but Mercedes knew the fresh tires could be a huge advantage later .On lap 37 he was back in second place once again chasing George Russell. And with 10 laps left to go Antonelli sliced open the gap cutting it to 4.7 seconds and by lap 48 he was on Russell’s tail, and on turn one of lap 49v Antonelli goes wide and goes into the gravel however, he keeps the car under control and remain remains only .8 seconds behind George Russell and on lap 50 Kimi overtakes and doesn’t give the lead back and wins a historic victory in Monza being the first Italian to win since Ludovico Scarfiotti in 1966.
