Florida state has spent a grand total of 200 million dollars in Annual spending on recruiting this year and NIL, the program mainly saw a rise in investments with their football investment being 85.4 million dollars in 2025. With all the spending you expect results, which haven't been seen from them since 2023, since that season Florida State has finished with a 7-17 record with a 29.2 winning percentage having back to back losing seasons for the first time since 2020-2021. It doesn't help also that FSU started the season 3-0 and finished 2-7 down the stretch in 2025.

Florida state has had a decline in draft production outside of the 2024 draft class which saw 10 players get drafted. Despite maintaining the streak of having at least one player selected in the draft since 1983, an average of 1.25 players have been drafted to the NFL in the last four years with only one selection in this years class being Darrell Jackson Jr, who was taken in the fourth round with the 103rd pick. Besides the decline in NFL production and lack of results on the field, Florida State as a program has a standard to maintain, being a Blue blood of College football these past two seasons have been borderline disappointment. Norvell has to find a solution quickly to solve the problems that have been lingering over the program these past few years or he will be potentially fired from Florida State.

Labeling 2026 as must-win is statistically reductive. The real metric is the performance delta in development. If the program fails to optimize its output by the mid-season window, the administrative overhead will necessitate a total reset regardless of the final standings.
